HERE’S MY OPINION…..

Thanks everyone for your opinions. From what I can tell most people are in agreement that it is “not that big of a deal.” I would like to play devil’s advocate a little though. I do agree with Camera Pilot that there are much bigger issues going on in the world…the Mexico thing is awful! However, as usual these types of things make the news. I guess I just have a couple points to make, one point being, wasn’t it South West that kicked Kyla Ebbert off of their aircraft for being scantily dressed? Hmmmmm, there’s some food for thought.

I’m also wondering how the men who answered, “what’s the big deal?” would feel…honestly…if there was a humongous picture of a hot guy in a speedo plastered on the side of the plane?

I’m just not sure how I feel. I’m definitely not “up in arms” over it…I consider myself a feminist and grateful to the women who came before me, who had to fight for the rights I have today, but I also appreciate the differences between men and women. I guess I feel that there is a time and a place for everything and I’m not really “getting” the picture on the side of the airplane. To be honest with you I think it cheapens South West to likes of Hooters. I believe in having class, yes you can go to the beach and see women in bikinis but does that mean that is appropriate attire at a restaurant, an office, a school play….or an airplane. I really don’t think so. Yes, men and women are sexual beings but when women are made out to be sexual “objects” that’s a dangerous and slippery slope…..and just because something was done in the past doesn’t mean it should be accepted in the present, and LOL Aviatrix……I’m pretty sure “boobies” are for feeding babies: )

Good point. And by the way, as far as the whole “humungous picture of a hot guy in a speedo” …? Um, EW! I don’t care how hot your body is, guys should not be walking around in those things. Seriously, just, ick.

  2. I totally agree.

    This is a fun debate.

I’m not offended whether it was a hot woman in a bikini (I’ll take a second look, thankyouverymuch), or a hunka hunka in a speedo (passing glance, not my type, move on).

However your point about a different dimension, which is whether the side of an airplane is a reasonable, expected or appropriate place to see the SI advertisement. After all the other blatant product positioning and commercialism we see (glasses of some soft drink on American Idol, anyone?) it isn’t surprising.

I’m reduced down to “hey, I like to look at pretty girls. Bonus.”. Will it make me fly Southwest? No, not unless I was going to fly them anyway. But it won’t keep me away, either.

Just got back from a 3 day and only had one comment from an older gentleman who said he was bummed he wasn’t flying on the plane with the hot bikini babe!
