Q: Since you work first so much, I've got to ask, what's the easiest/hardest meal to serve? Seems to me like breakfast would be pretty easy since it has a lot less options, at least on AA, which is who I tend to fly. It's basically just three choices, omelet or cereal/fruit, bagel or biscuit, and drink. Once you get into the dinners, there are a couple of hot options, you've gotta worry about wine & cocktails on top of water & all the other drinks, etc, etc. FP: I'll answer for both cabins. In coach, I find it easier to serve lunch or dinner. Breakfast in coach involves a lot of coffee and tea. Here is a secret.....every FA I know has a pet peeve about passengers and coffee. The peeve is that nine out of ten people don't tell you how they take their coffee. "What?" you say....is the big deal with that? Just ask them...right? Well, I'm not sure, but I can tell you from experience that it does get a tad annoying by row 32....leg #3. I guess you add that with having to ask, "Would like something to drink?" three times before the head phones come out of the ears and voila'....irritation sets in. I know that most passengers still don't understand what the fuss is but trust me it's not personal, it's just one of those things: ) If you would like to get on your FAs good side, next time you fly say, "coffee, cream and sugar please."
In FC everything is easier....to me. I find it more relaxing and Breakfast is a bit easier up front......(except for scrambling those eggs and the bacon splattering everywhere...hahaha!!) You're right it is usually a lighter fare and even if all of my passengers kept how they take their coffee to themselves I only have to ask, "how do you take that?" at the most twenty four times;-) The only problem is I never work early enough to serve breakfast. I guess I like checking in late more than anything else!
I apologize in advance, and in arrears, for all those times y'all will think (and did think) that I was a complete moron because you had to ask me the question twice. You see, all I heard was "mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm mmmm?," it being difficult to hear the flight attendant when I am in 26 E and I hear mostly the slipstream through my not-properly-cleared ears. I know what you were thinking, but it really was my ears. Honest.
When I'm thinking ahead, which isn't often enough to redeem me, I do try to answer the question ahead of time: "Coffee, black please."
I fly internationally and the service in the back is a piece of cake - chicken or beef. First class can get a little hairy as my (our) airline does a five course fine dining extravaganza of food which is a bit easier to serve than prepare. There's one flight attendant in the aisle and another in the galley getting everything ready and that can be a challenge on 5-6 hour flights from NYC to the UK.
Never thought of how irritated Cabin Crew get from asking how you take your coffee or tea. This should be a topic of discussion in CRM sessions (just teasing).
Well if you think that is irritating how do you think cabin crew feel on an LCC selling meals and in some parts of the world haggling over the price.
Ohhh I totally agree... I always have to ask a few times. Especially when I have people out of New York whose English is a little lacking. Also with the ice. No ice, more ice, little ice, one cube please. Goes right up there with cream and sugar...
plus we don't have milk and that makes a lot of people extra huffy. I said milk, not cream... haha.
A: hahaha...that's funny: ) my airline does actually serve food...at no charge! Any new questions for us?
WC:No, apology needed...we can tell the difference between pax who can't hear us and the ones that are listening to their i-pods completely oblivious to our existence;-)and, you've got the coffee answer down so...you're the perfect pax!
JJ: Well, we already knew you are perfect;-)
L:Yes, I was talking domestic...maybe I will need to do a follow up post for international! Definitely, apples and oranges, can't really compare: )
O: haha...yes, bring it up;-) I can't imagine haggling...yikes, no thanks!
A:Yup,it's that easy, you'll make their day...enjoy your coffee;-)
1. You can eat a 4 course meal standing at the kitchen counter
2. You search for a button to flush the toilet 3. You look for the "crew line" at the grocery store. 4. You can pack for a 2 week trip to Europe in 1 roll-aboard 5. All of your pens have different hotel names on them 6. You NEVER unpack 7. You can recognize pilots by the backs of their heads-but not by their faces 8. You can tell from 70 yards away if a piece of luggage will fit in the overhead bin 9. You care about the local news in a city three states away 10. You can tie a neck scarf 36 ways 11. You know at least 25 uses for air sickness bags-none of which pertain to vomit 12. You understand and actually use the 24-hour clock 13. You own 2 sets of uniforms: fat and thin 14. You don't think in "months"-you think in "bid packs" 15. You always point with two fingers 16. You get a little too excited by certain types of ice 17. You stand at the front door and politely say "Buh-bye, thanks, have a nice day" when someone leaves your home 18. You can make a sentence using all of the following phrases: "At this time," "For your safety," "Feel free," and "As a reminder" 19. You know what's on the cover of the current issues of In Touch, Star, and People magazines 20. You stop and inspect every fire extinguisher you pass, just to make sure the "gauge is in the green" 21. Your thighs are covered in bruises from armrests and elbows 22. You wake up and have to look at the hotel stationery to figure out where you are 23. You refer to cities by their airport codes 24. You actually understand every item on this list

" In coach, I find it easier to serve lunch or dinner". Is that because lunch or dinner in couch are nonexistent ??? :)
(just kidding... well, some because it has been at least a decade since I had lunch or dinner in a domestic flight)

That would make me a terrific passenger. I don't drink coffee :-)))))

Keep up the good work people.
Good to know, I'll be more specific next time, I drink a lot of coffee!
