AIR FRANCE 447

By The Flying Pinto

I am skipping Wednesday’s Q&A this week to say my heart gos out to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew lost on Air France Flight 447.

Mark Lawrence asked this weeks question…which I will answer next week…and when I went to Mark’s site, “Amateur Aviation Photographytonight I saw he talked a little bit about the tragedy and recommended reading a post by Captain Dave at his blog, “Flight Level 390.” I read it, and to be honest it wasn’t what I wanted to hear but I’ve been reading his blog for a while now and I trust what he says. Obviously nobody has the answers yet but his speculation is worth the read.

I couldn't agree more about Captain Dave's comments. I found this on another forum on the net that might be of interest – it details the weather around the flight.

Ok, you're right, not what I wanted to hear…but that's reality I guess!

Why can't we just cancel flights when there's an impending thunderstorm? or reroute the flight? I'd rather be delayed than dead…ok, I know that's so not practical for airline companies to do, but as a pax, when I get on board, I want to increase the odds that I come out alive (well, I know nothing is 100%, but you know what I mean).

    Thanks for sharing…

Oh, one more question…as a flight attendant, do you ever get worried about tragic accidents like these? I really applaud your courage. Whenever the plane hits turbulence, I literally want to call an attendant to hold me…

Sorry…one more question. Is it true that when a plane goes down (example on the Atlantic Ocean), you'll pass out first before the plane even hits the water?

    Thanks,
    Jen

The pilots perspective is something most of us don't want to hear. I've been struck by lightening twice while flying and been in thunderstorms and wondered why we were flying there? Couldn't go around? I know more involved than that. But to have a bunch of passengers throwing up isn't fun. So sad!

I wonder if anything will change from this? Maybe put more gas on and go around? Cancel more flights?

  6. exhibit 15 this year as to why i'm now scared to fly. you'd think 25 years of flying would make me not scared, but well…i guess i watch too much news.
