WEDNESDAY’S Q&A

By The Flying Pinto

“Had a question that occurred to me when reading your Crew Briefing question about whether someone goes out or is a “slam clicker.” When you all head out for the hotel bar or a night on the town, do you all shed the FA & pilot uniforms as fast as you can & get into civilian clothes? Or do you stay in them to economize what you have to pack & so you can spot/be spotted?”

Just curious, thanks!

Joe

Hi Joe!

We definitely shed the uniforms! The main reason would be because it is a complete no..no, as in lose your job! U.S. Airline crews are not allowed to even be in uniform when at a bar or a liquor store. I asked my friends at twitter who work for airlines outside the U.S. and it seems the rules are the same. So, yes, we shed the uniforms and to be honest I think most would even if it was allowed…it’s pretty much the first thing we like to do, a long day on the airplane and you get that “airplane” smell on ya;-) Although, pilots will generally leave their black “pilot” pants on and change into a golf type shirt.

*and the bonus question is: Anyone know if Air France Pilots are allowed a glass of wine w/ their crew meals?

Sodwee We can buy duty free at airports in uniform as long as we do it swiftly and be discreet (includes gin bottles).
Drink yes but no alcohol. Actually drink while being seated. Not standing up. Female should take hat off before drinking.
We cannot wear the U/F to perform any personal musings what so ever. UNIFORM=WORK.Why would you rock up to zinc wearing it ?

skyhighboysyd can’t drink, can’t be in a bar, can’t be in a restaurant that serves alcohol and obviously can’t be in a bottle shop!

If you have a question for my Wednesday post e-mail, twitter, or leave a comment;-)

Same as SHB. Although I once put an overcoat over my uniform & sneaked into the bottlo to buy a drink on the weay home after a trip from hell! 😛

Apparently the Air France drinks thing also applies to the cabin crew, this was from a colleague who used to work for them. Not sure if it's still allowed though, she was there in the 80's…

  2. About the AF wine glass… NO WAY! Maybe in the 80's but not these days.
