As a single traveler, I recommend you roll your clothes you’ll be surprised at what you can fit. But, as a family I recommend that only the parents bring suitcases. At least until everyone is big enough to lug their own suitcase, the last thing you want to do is become the family pack mule. This sets the scene for whiny kids and short tempers. What I do recommend is the family suitcase. Kids clothes are small, and with the right space saver bag you can fit everything you need in one suitcase. Once unpacked at your destination you can use the space saver bag for your laundry.

Below are a weeks worth of clothes for one adult and two children. I fit all of the clothes into my 20″Travel Pro Rollaboard using my space saver bag. Two adults traveling? The second adult can pack their clothes and a few more bulky items like extra shoes and activities. If your kids are still in diapers, I recommend bringing enough (plus a few extra) in your carry on to get you through the travel day. Use a service like Diapers.com, they’ll deliver all your baby necessities right to your door.

Travel Pro has rollaboards to fit all you packing need and I’m proud to offer you my discount with them! Just go to Travelproluggageoutlet.com and use the discount code: theflyingpinto15 to enjoy an additional 15% off your total purchase! Happy Flying!

  1. Space saver bags have obvious usefulness when it comes to cramming luggage — but how do you deal with the issue of not having a vacuum cleaner at the other end? Do you just ask the hotel housekeeping for a vacuum cleaner each time?

Hi Dan, I should have added to the post that you can get the air out of these bags fairly easy yourself by sitting on them and pushing the air out that way.

Hi, Can you do a Travel Tuesday tip, Makeup edition? Like, what you take for trips. Im flying international soon, and I have no idea what to take with me on board. Your tips really help 🙂

  4. Yes- My kids like to fight and sit on the bags, thats how we get the air out!! These bags are a life saver!

  5. Travel Makeup…It’s really a personal preference but try to find products that are dual purpose, non-liquid, & can take your look day to night in as few products as possible.

Giovanna, Yes! I would love to do a Travel Tuesday make-up edition! Grace is right, it it is a personal thing, but I have some ideas for you…it will be up next Tuesday.

  7. I find they crease my clothes!

  8. Enjoyed the read.

  9. I’m a 5-year flight attendant and use space saver bags regularly. Target sells a 4-pack (2 medium, 2 large) that do not require a vacuum cleaner. Each bag comes with a clip that run the length of the dual “Ziplock-like” closure; you use your body weight to get the air out. The bags run about $20 for 4 and can be found in the travel aisle.

  10. Hi..Would I be able to pack toiletries in the space save bag? ie..shampoo, conditioner, aerosol, sunscreen, etc…Thank you 🙂
